And in Today’s NEWS:

Artist Tom Sepe experiences frustration and disappointment as the week draws to a close.

“I barely got half of what I wanted to get done this week, the weather is affecting my mood, numerous people who owe me money are flaking, I smoke too much and I live in a country that denounces Socialism.” said Sepe this morning at a local cafe.

“At least I have lots of friends on Facebook!” he decried while riding away on his bicycle.

Tom Sepe is an under-employed multidisciplinary artist who live in Berkeley, CA

You can view his un-marketable art-objects online at: http://tomsepe.com/recent.html

Here’s a preview of the print-on-demand book I just made of my art. It’s meant to be like a portfolio, but right now its really more like a coffee-table style retrospective of the last ten years. I’ll probably trim it down and go with a smaller format for use as an actual portfolio.

I designed the book in Apple’s professional photo editing application, Aperture (which is kind of like iPhoto on steroids.) But for the next version I think I will go with Blurb.com and do a full re-design using their software.

I really fantastic opportunity has come my way: to display the Whirlygig Emoto, my steampunk motorbike, at the Charles River Museum of Industry and Innovation in Waltham Massachusettes. Steampuffin.com is hosting a “Steampunk Form and Function Design Competition.” The opening night is Oct 22nd 2010.
I’ve never had any work in a museum, most of the projects I’ve worked on have been large-scale sculptures or art cars, so this is a very cool thing that I’m super excited about!
However, niether the museum nor I have the funds to ship the bike!

Well that’s where community comes in: I’ve started a fundraising campaign on kickstarter.com to raise the funds to ship the bike. Here’s the catch though: if I don’t meet my target goal of $3000, then I don’t get a single dime from anyone. That’s right. It’s an all-or-nothing kinda deal. As of today I’m a little over a third of the way and there are only 8 more days ’till the campaign ends!!!

I hope you’ll consider clicking on the link and donating.. even $5 – it all adds up!

Here’s my latest: A timelapse video I just edited of The Infinitarium we are building at Big Art Studios in West Oakland. I’m one of six artists leads building 18 giant over-sized plants out of scrap metal. I’m in charge of building five giant willow trees – each tree will have over 1,200 feet of salvaged steel cable! We have a small army of incredible volunteers showing up everyday to learn welding and build BIG ART!

Click here to view the embedded video.

Directing artists Karen Cusolito and Dan Das Mann designed and envisioned the Infinitarium, a massive interactive sculpture garden that will span an acre and will include state-of-the-art lighting controls and user-controlled pyrotechnic flame effects. It will be a larger-than-life magical botanical garden and will travel to many events and festivals, premiering at the Electric Daisy Carnival, Sand By The Ton, Outside Lands Festival, Burning Man, the PDX Bridge Festival and many more. http://theinfinitarium.com

I’m using a hacked Canon S1is digital still camera and a kit-made 7.4v power supply (kit from Adafruit Industries) connected to a 12v deep cycle marine battery and combining photos and video from my iPhone as well as a mini DV video camera.

“It’s small, its elusive, but its very friendly!” says Tom Sepe of the Higgs-Boson particle he photographed in his garage on Monday.

Scientists have been looking for the Higgs-Boson or “God Particle” for decades but “They’ve been going about it all wrong!” says Sepe, who was able to coax the quantum particle out of hiding with just the right music.

As Sepe explains; “Sages have been saying for thousands of years that every thing is just vibration, the music of the spheres and whatnot. Look, the Higgs-Boson has been here since the dawn of time (or just .0000001 seconds after) it has good tastes, it’s seen it all. You can’t just build a big a huge ugly billion dollar machine and expect a cool party. These things have to be understood from an emotional point of view as well! Its quantum physics man! Its Craazzy! We understand this stuff out in California.”

Sorry Switzerland.

I brought out a few of my friends to the secret warehouse that stores the Steampunk Treehouse - Sean Orlando was there to talk about the Treehouse, along with Alan Rorie, Oliver W. Lowe and Emily Beighley.

Oliver is working on a book titled “Steampunk: The Retro-Futurist Dream” to be published by RE:Search Publications. Sean and I were both interviewed for that book so I’ll make an announcment about its release at a future date….

Emily Beighley builds fabulous “Neo-victorian Antiquiteis and Curiosities” which she brought along to show to the cameras.

Alan Rorie brought out his Dihemispheric Chronaether Agitator which is also featured in the news segment.

A big thanks to Jake Von Slatt and steampunkworkshop.com – the interview that Meridith did with me on their blog a few months back has brought me a ton of press and attention!

I’ve found myself back at square one with the Tibet documentary film project. Actually to say “back” is misleading because I think we skipped over square one in the first place!

As it stands now, Andrea is moving to India next month, and the film is now 100% in my hands. One powerful lesson I’ve learned over the last few months is that it takes a tremendous amount of time to produce a documentary film – on the order of months if not years. Of these two new developments, I’ve decided to re-assess. Basically to discard any previous notions and start from the beginning.

This is more than necessary, as I was beginning to get discouraged, or at least feel overwhelmed by the complexity and enormity of the project!

Recently, I had the good fortune to meet with a professional dicumentary film editor, Kathleen Dargis. She turned me on to a book entitled “Trailer Mechanics” by Fernanda Rossi, and it is walking me through the steps to fully understand my motivations and desires for making a film. This is so important for if I’m going to dedicate the next year of my life to this project, then I better be doing it fir the right reasons, or I’ll get burned out, or worse just fail miserably!

So now I am starting to develop a concept around the values and topics that I am interested in… and then the next step will be to create a fundraisibg trailer that will demonstrate the idea to foundations and potential finders, as well ad become a tool for developing an audience for the film.

My current production schedule;

Nov-Dec -Fundraise from my immediate network while working on concept. Perhaps a few intimate evenings where I can show footage, talk about the project and get support.

Jan-Feb – Edit the trailer

March – ? apply for grants, private donors, create events. Also this will be when I will be doing additional interviews or filming to support the new film story/framework.

Stat tuned!
